Terms of Use

Last updated: 12 September 2026

By downloading or using Barriers ("the app") you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

Barriers is a product of IV Technologies Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales (company no. 17316561). In these terms, "we", "us", "our", and "the developer" mean IV Technologies Ltd. You can reach us at support@ivtechnologies.uk.

1. The app

Barriers is a personal productivity and money‑tracking app for iPhone, iPad and Android, with a companion macOS app and an Apple Watch app — iPhone, iPad and Mac sync through your own iCloud account if you turn that on, and the Watch mirrors the list from the paired iPhone — plus a browser edition and an optional online account for family task‑sharing. Not every feature exists on every platform: dictation, receipt text recognition and the calendar features are Apple‑only, and the calendar switches are offered on iPhone, iPad and Mac. The app and any online service are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties or conditions of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non‑infringement.

2. Not financial advice

Figures you enter are for your own reference only. Barriers does not provide financial, tax, accounting, legal or investment advice and is not responsible for any decision you make using it. Currency conversions use third‑party reference rates supplied by open.er-api.com and may be inaccurate, delayed, or unavailable.

3. Your data & backups

You are solely responsible for your content and for keeping your own backups (Settings → Data → Export). We do not guarantee that any data — whether on your device, in iCloud, or on the online backend — will be preserved, error‑free, or recoverable, and we are not liable for any loss, corruption, or unavailability of data. Uninstalling the app deletes its on‑device data, with one exception: deadlines the app published to your calendar belong to your calendar rather than to the app, so turn calendar publishing off before you uninstall or revoke calendar access, otherwise the "Barriers" calendar and its events stay behind for you to delete by hand.

4. Online accounts & family sharing

The online account is optional. If you use it: you are responsible for the confidentiality of your sign‑in and invite codes and for all activity under your account; content you create or are assigned is visible to members of your family; you are responsible for whom you invite and for the content you share; and you must not upload unlawful, infringing, or harmful content. We may suspend or remove accounts, families, or content we reasonably believe breach these terms, without liability.

5. Service availability

Online features rely on third‑party infrastructure (including Supabase, Apple, Google and Amazon services, and the open.er-api.com rate service) and internet connectivity. We do not warrant that any online feature will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error‑free, and we may modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature at any time without liability.

6. Purchases

The app is free to download, and there are two separate things you can pay for.

Barriers Premium is a one‑time purchase. It unlocks Finance and Receipts on your account for good, together with dictating several tasks in one breath on the Apple platforms that have dictation. Several‑at‑once may be offered to you free for a limited period the first time you use it; when that period ends the feature returns to Premium and nothing is charged unless you choose to buy. Premium does not renew, and there is nothing to cancel.

Barriers Family is an auto‑renewing subscription, offered monthly (one month per period) or annually (one year per period). It is the paid plan for a household, and it includes everything Barriers Premium unlocks, for the subscriber. Creating a family, sharing and assigning tasks within it, and a household of two are free and are not part of it; what the subscription adds over the free tier is shown on the Compare plans screen in the app, which is the current authority and can change between releases. The subscriber is the only person who pays: members you invite join at no cost and get the shared family features. Finance and Receipts remain a separate one‑time purchase for each of them, except for members who already had that access under our earlier rules, who keep it. New subscribers get fourteen days free where the store finds them eligible; after that it renews at the price shown for your country and plan, which is displayed on the purchase screen before you confirm.

A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless auto‑renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the period ends, and your account is charged within 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel at any time in your store account settings — Settings → your name → Subscriptions on iOS, or Play Store → Payments and subscriptions on Android. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

All purchases are processed by Apple or Google under their own terms, and refunds are handled by them. Restoring re‑applies a purchase on your devices.

7. Acceptable use

Use the app lawfully and for personal purposes. Do not attempt to tamper with, reverse‑engineer, overload, or abuse the app, its purchases, or its online backend, or use it to store or share content you have no right to.

8. Third-party services

The app integrates services provided by Apple, Supabase, Google, Amazon, and open.er-api.com (public currency reference rates). Your use of those services is governed by their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the acts, omissions, availability, or data practices of any third party.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill, or anticipated savings, arising out of or in connection with your use of (or inability to use) the app or any online feature, however caused. The developer's total aggregate liability shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) £5. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold the developer harmless from any claim, loss, or expense arising from your misuse of the app, your content, or your breach of these terms.

11. Changes

These terms may be updated; the current version governs your use, and continued use after an update means you accept it.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, whose courts have non‑exclusive jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory consumer‑protection rights you have where you live.
