Delete your account & data
Last updated: 29 July 2026
This page explains how to delete your Barriers account and the data held with it. Barriers is published by IV Technologies Ltd. Most people never create an account at all — if you chose “On this device”, there is nothing on our servers to delete, and uninstalling the app removes your data.
Do you have an account?
- No account — if you use Barriers on this device only, your tasks, finance entries and receipts live on your device (and, on Apple devices, in your own private iCloud). We never receive them. Uninstall the app to remove the on-device copy; to clear the iCloud copy, use Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage on your device.
- Online account — you have one if you signed in to create or join a family (with Google, Apple, an email address, or the one-tap child-device option). The steps below apply to you.
Delete it yourself, in the app
Open Barriers → Settings → Family & account → Delete account. Confirm once and it is done immediately — no waiting on us. The app tells you exactly what will go before you commit, and if you are the last owner of a family it says so.
Or ask us
If you have lost access to the account — a reinstalled device, a sign-in that no longer works — email support@ivtechnologies.uk from the address you signed in with, with the subject “Delete my Barriers account”.
- If you signed in with Sign in with Apple and used its private relay, email us from any address and include your display name and your family’s invite code (Barriers → Family → Manage) so we can identify the account.
- If the account is a child device account created with no email, ask the family owner to email us with the family’s invite code and the child member’s display name.
We confirm by reply and complete the deletion within 30 days, usually far sooner. You do not need to give a reason, and you can cancel the request any time before it is actioned.
Either route deletes exactly the same things, listed below.
What is deleted
- Your account and sign-in identity.
- Your profile — display name, avatar, referral code.
- Your family memberships and role. If you are the last remaining owner of a family, that family and its shared tasks, ledger history and receipts are deleted with it.
- Family tasks you created, and your assignment, acceptance, completion and decline records — including any note you attached.
- Photos you attached to family tasks or family receipts.
- Push notification device tokens registered for your account.
- Any Alexa pairing code and voice-added tasks awaiting import.
What is kept, and for how long
- Your own device and iCloud data is untouched. Deleting the account removes what is on our backend; the copy on your device stays until you delete it or uninstall the app.
- Tasks other members still rely on. If you assigned a task to another family member and they are still working on it, the task remains in their family with your name removed. Nothing identifies you afterwards.
- Purchase and subscription records. Purchases are handled by Google Play or the App Store, not by us. We keep the transaction identifier tied to your subscription for as long as required for tax, accounting and refund obligations (six years under UK law). It contains no task, finance or receipt content.
- Backups. Deleted records can persist in encrypted backups of our backend for up to 30 days before being overwritten.
Deleting some data without closing your account
You do not have to delete your account to remove your content:
- Delete any individual task, expense or receipt from within the app — for family items this removes it from the shared family too.
- Barriers → Family → Manage → Leave family stops all sharing and removes you from that family, keeping your account and your own local data.
- Settings → Data → Erase everything permanently clears every task, finance entry and receipt on the device and in your iCloud. Export a backup first if you may want it later.
